Popular media has christened the American middle class as the "new poor" of its time. Everyday, publications coast to coast are hungrily chronicling stories of the demise of things we took for granted all these years- things like gainful employment thanks to college education, job security, reasonable health care, and a comfortable standard of living without the (now mandatory) double incomes, and 70 hour work weeks. The country's largest labor union for media workers, the Communication Workers of America with which WashTech is affiliated, has endorsed Barack Obama in this presidential election, as a beacon of change. The Communication Workers of America- the country's largest communications and media union, representing over 700,000 men and women in both private and public sectors- with which WashTech is affiliated, has endorsed Barack Obama as the candidate of choice in this presidential election for his support for the critical issues of Employee Free Choice, health care, fair trade and jobs and retirement security, among others.

Denver based Telecom giant Qwest Communications today entered into a contract with its largest labor union, the Communications Workers of America, averting a possible strike that could have disrupted service at the democratic convention due in about a week in the city.

The future of the "free trade" model that our country has supported
for the last 30 years is ready to become history. It has proven outdated as shown by the July collapse of the Doha trade negotiations of the World Trade Organization (WTO), provoking outraged and dismayed reactions from established and emerging markets around the world. The Washington Fair Trade Coalition is of the view that this has been a long time coming.

The number of CWAers signing on to the Million Member Mobilization for the Employee Free Choice Act jumped nearly 30 percent since the last week as members are recognizing how the legislation will strengthen bargaining power during negotiations with employers.
